About image formats
JPG vs PNG
JPG is lossy and works well for photographs, with small files and no transparency. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, so it suits screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, but photos saved as PNG are large.
JPG vs WebP
WebP usually produces smaller files than JPG at similar visual quality, and it supports transparency too. JPG remains the most universally compatible format.
When to use WebP
WebP is a good default for images on websites, because smaller files load faster. It is supported by all current major browsers, though some older software and email clients may not open it.
Transparency
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white when you convert to JPG. Convert to PNG or WebP to keep transparency.

Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser.
What happens to animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is kept, so the result is a still image.
Why did converting to PNG make my file bigger?
PNG is lossless, so photos can become much larger than the JPG or WebP original.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes for PNG and WebP. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.
Can I convert HEIC or SVG files?
Not yet. HEIC and SVG are not supported in this version.
